Walter Jansen (born December 31, 1938 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German chemist and chemistry teacher .

Life

From 1958 to 1964 he studied chemistry and mathematics at RWTH Aachen University and at the University of Bonn and graduated with the state examination. 1966 took place doctorate in the field of inorganic chemistry at Otto Schmitz-DuMont . Jansen then worked as a research assistant at the University of Bonn and part-time lecturer at a Bonn grammar school. After a short period as an academic advisor at the University of Education (PH) Bonn , he became Professor of Chemistry and Didactics of Chemistry at the PH Flensburg in 1970 and, in 1977, Full Professor of Didactics of Chemistry at the University of Oldenburg . From 2008 to 2017 he was a lecturer in chemistry at the University of Flensburg . Even after his retirement, Jansen continues to publish in the field of didactics of chemistry.

His areas of work are experimental teaching concepts for chemistry classes , the history of chemistry in chemistry classes and the historically problem-oriented teaching method.

He is the founder of the Chemol project , which introduces primary school children to chemistry and science.

Jansen has published more than 300 didactic and technical papers, including around 10 books. He is co-editor of the Handbook of Experimental Chemistry.

He is an honorary member of the chemistry class of the Society of German Chemists and was a founding member and editor-in-chief of the specialist journal Chemkon from 1993 to 2004.

Doctoral students and former members of his working group have been appointed to chairs of chemistry didactics:

Jansen received the Heinz Schmidkunz Prize 2019 on September 16, 2019 as part of the GDCh Science Forum in Aachen .
