Matthias Heimer

Matthias Heimer (* 1957 in Wuppertal ) is a German Protestant military chaplain and security politician . As military general dean, he is head of the Evangelical Church Office for the Bundeswehr .

Life

Born in Wuppertal , Heimer grew up in Athens , the capital of Greece. He studied Protestant theology at the universities of Wuppertal and Bonn . From 1984 to 1986 he was vicar and pastor in the auxiliary ministry. From 1987 to 1998 he was the parish priest in Nachbarebreck , a district of Wuppertal.

In 1998 Heimer moved from church service to federal service and has served as a Protestant military chaplain since then . Initially, from 1998 to 2003, he was the pastor of the Evangelical Military Parish in Bonn. During this time, from 2002 to 2003, he was personal advisor to the Protestant military bishop. In 2003 he became the chief military dean of the Protestant military dean's office in Düsseldorf .

In 2005 Heimer came to the Evangelical Church Office for the Bundeswehr . Here he initially worked as head of department; In 2009/2010 he was in charge of the military Dean General Peter Brandt .

In August 2010 Heimer was appointed head of the Evangelical Church Office for the German Armed Forces by the Federal Ministry of Defense with the official title of Military General Dean. Since then, as military dean general, he has been in charge of evangelical military pastoral care in Germany ; he is a federal civil servant for life and the disciplinary superior of all Protestant military chaplains.

Heimer is a member of the advisory board of the Federal Academy for Security Policy, which is also subordinate to the Federal Ministry of Defense, and makes an important contribution to communicating Germany's long-term security policy goals and to networking church and state. Heimer is also a "permanent guest" on the advisory board for questions relating to internal leadership at the Center for Internal Leadership of the Bundeswehr. The Advisory Board advises the Federal Minister of Defense, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, on internal leadership issues through statements on fundamental issues and current individual issues.
