Matthias Koch from Gailenbach

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matthias Koch von Gailenbach (also: Matthias Koch the Younger ) (* 1610 in Augsburg ; † June 12, 1680 ) was an Augsburg patrician and businessman .

Life

Matthias Koch the Younger was the only child from the first marriage of Matthias Koch (* 1581; † 1633), a merchant from Memmingen , who had acquired Gailenbach Castle in Edenbergen in 1622 . His mother was Anna Maria Stenglin (* 1585; † not recorded). After the death of his father he took over the castle, but handed it over to his half-brother Johannes Koch von Gailenbach (* 1614; † 1693) in 1669 .

Through his marriage to Anna Maria Lauginger (* 1612; † 1641) on October 12, 1637, Matthias the Younger came to the "Several Society" of Augsburg. Since he and his half-brother had rendered outstanding services to the Protestant church system in Augsburg during the last years of the Thirty Years' War , both were in 1654 by Emperor Ferdinand III. ennobled ("Koch von Gailenbach") and accepted into the Augsburg patriciate. His second marriage to Anna Philippina Fleckhaimer (* 1650; † 1705), which was concluded on September 11, 1673, remained childless.
