Matthias Kohring

Matthias Kohring (* 1965 in Dortmund ) is a German media and communication scientist and professor at the University of Mannheim with a focus on journalism research , science journalism , the media public and trust in the media.

Life and education

After studying journalism and communication science , political science and German studies at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , Kohring received his doctorate there on the "function of science journalism ".

From 1996 to 1998 he was a research assistant in the Applied Media Studies course at the TU Ilmenau . Since 1998 he has been working as a research assistant in the field of media studies at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . There he achieved his habilitation in 2004 with a thesis on "Trust in Journalism" and was appointed senior assistant. He has already led several DFG and EU research projects on risk communication and trust in the media . In the summer semester 2005 and winter semester 2005/2006 he was a professor for communication science at the University of Münster . Since the 2006/2007 winter semester, he has taken on a professorship for communication studies with a focus on media sociology and media psychology .

Since 2010 he has been Professor of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Mannheim and is currently Dean of the Philosophical Faculty.

Matthias Kohring is married and has three children.
