Jawoll was a band from Kassel that was commercially successful in German-speaking countries in the early 1980s as part of the Neue Deutsche Welle .

Band history

Jawoll was founded in 1981 by Kornelia Scholz and Matthias Kutschke at the Kassel Art Academy. The English guitarist Robert Foster encouraged the band members to write in English. Inspired by the band Ideal and Anette Humpe , the band members of Jawoll decided to continue writing only in German.

After appearing on TV on the popular music program Bananas , Jawoll was discovered by Rüssl Räckords , the label of the comedian, musician and painter Otto Waalkes .

This was followed by the release of the only album Jawoll , whose single Taxi reached the top 20 of the German single charts.

The second single, Rendezvous , barely reached the top 50 of the German single charts. A multiple change of labels followed. The band's last single, I'm crazy about you , was released in 1984 . 1986 Jawoll broke up.

After the dissolution

The guitarist Robert Foster went to Canada after the dissolution and joined the singer Jann Arden there, with whom he celebrated international success.

The singer Kornelia Scholz then worked as a painter. She died of leukemia in 1991 in Regensburg at the age of 38 .
