Matthias Lehmann (lawyer)

Matthias Lehmann (* 1972 in Gotha ) is a German law scholar and professor at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

Life

From 1991 Lehmann studied law at the University of Jena , where he completed his studies in 1996 with the first state examination in law. He then worked until 1997 as a research assistant for Karl Meessen in Jena. After studying at the Panthéon-Assas University in Paris and completing his legal clerkship at the Supreme Court in Berlin, Lehmann passed his second state examination in 2002. In the same year he did his doctorate at Meessen in Jena. iur. He then worked as a research assistant at Ursula Stein's chair at the Technical University of Dresden . It was during this time that he obtained a Master of Laws degree from Columbia University (2004). In 2011 this university awarded him the degree of Doctor of Juridical Science . In 2006 Lehmann switched to Stefan Leible's chair at the University of Bayreuth after the Dresden Law Faculty had been closed. Lehmann completed his habilitation in Bayreuth in 2008.

This was initially followed by a substitute chair at Bielefeld University . From 2009 he held the chair for civil law, commercial and economic law and European law at the University of Halle . In 2014 he moved to the University of Bonn , where he has since been director of the Institute for International Private Law and Comparative Law. Lehmann also gives regular guest lectures at the universities of Bordeaux , Friborg and Seville .

Works (selection)

Lehmann publishes in particular on European and international private law, business and financial market law. For example, he wrote the commentary on international financial market law in the well-known Munich commentary on the German Civil Code .
