Matthias Strauss (born May 24, 1956 in Frankfurt ) is a former German basketball player . Strauss works as a dentist in Berlin-Lichterfelde .
Life
Strauss moved from Frankfurt am Main to MTV Gießen. He played six years for Mittelhessen in the basketball league . In 1978 he won the championship with Giessen , in 1979 Giessen won the cup . He completed an apprenticeship as a dental technician in Giessen and received the offer to take over a dental laboratory, but decided against it and moved to Berlin in 1981 to join the Bundesliga club DTV Charlottenburg. Strauss was the first national player at Charlottenburg. In 1985 the team reached the final of the German championship, but lost there against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In 1991 as BG Charlottenburg and 1992 as Alba Berlin, the club reached the championship finals twice with Matthias Strauss, but lost each time against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Strauss studied dentistry in Berlin and passed his exam in February 1992.
At the end of 1975 Strauss made his debut in the national team , in whose squad he was a total of 116 games. At the European Championship in 1981 he finished tenth with the German team, in 1983 the team reached eighth place.
