Matthias Werner (born December 4, 1984 ) is a German handball player . He is 1.89 m tall and weighs 85 kg.

Werner played at HaSpo Bayreuth in his youth. In 2003 he reached the semi-finals of the German championship with the A-youth. The backcourt player then ran for the HaSpo Bayreuth men's team, with whom he was promoted to the regional league. In 2007 he joined the second division HSC 2000 Coburg . In 2011, the back player moved to the Bayern league club SV 08 Auerbach , with whom he was promoted to the 3rd division in 2012 . In 2013 he left the association because his profession as a teacher prevented further engagement. In the second half of the 2013/14 season, he ran again for Auerbach. In the 2015/16 season Werner moved to his youth club Hc Weiden to work as a player-coach. For the 2016/17 season, Matthias Werner and his team managed to end the season without a defeat with 36: 0 points and thus direct promotion to the regional league. In the 2018/19 season, Werner seriously injured his thigh and was therefore out for several months. At the end of the season, he decided to resign as a coach and end his active career as a player at the age of 34.
