Mattias "IA" Eklundh (* 1969 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish guitarist and singer , known for his band Freak Kitchen and his involvement with Frozen Eyes , Fate , the Jonas Hellborg Trio and Art Metal . He has also released solo albums under the name Freak Guitar and plays guitar on three Soilwork albums .

biography

Eklundh learned to play the drums at the age of six. When he was thirteen, he switched to the electric guitar . According to his own statement, the musicians Frank Zappa and Paul Gilbert as well as the band Kiss are among his main influences. He also owns albums by Miles Davis and Slayer .

In the mid-1980s Eklundh founded the band Frozen Eyes , which broke up soon after the release of their first album in 1988. Soon after, he became a member of the Danish metal band Fate . He played guitar on their 1990 album Scratch'n Sniff .

After returning to Sweden, he founded his own band Freak Kitchen in 1992 with former Frozen Eyes drummer Joakim Sjöberg and bassist Christian Grönlund. The band played in this line-up for 8 years until Sjöberg and Grönlund left the band in 2000 and were replaced by Christer Örtefors and Björn Fryklund.

In addition to his Freak Kitchen albums, Eklundh has recorded three solo albums and was guest musician with many Swedish heavy bands such as Evergrey and Soilwork . His Freak Guitar solo albums were released by Steve Vai's Favored Nations record company .

In 2005 he worked with the Swedish jazz bassist Jonas Hellborg and the drummer Niclas Campagnol. They made their first appearance together in Mumbai , India , followed by an extensive tour of India.

Once a year he also runs a guitar clinic that he calls Freak Guitar Camp .

Mattias Eklundh plays Caparison guitars. The company made his Apple Horn guitar for him, and he also plays Yamaha guitars. The company designed the Silent Guitar model for him. He has been using Laney amplifiers for a long time , currently the VH100R.
