Matucana weberbaueri is a species of plant in the genus Matucana from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet weberbaueri honors the Prussian biologist August Weberbauer .

description

Matucana weberbaueri usually grows individually with spherical to somewhat cylindrical, green shoots and reaches heights of up to 20 centimeters with diameters of 12 centimeters. There are 18 to 30 ribs that are furrowed transversely and thus structured in humps . The 25 to 30 straight, needle-like, golden to dark brown spines cannot be divided into central and radial spines. They are 1 to 5 inches long.

The straight to slightly crooked, lemon-yellow to orange-colored flowers are up to 6 centimeters long and 3 centimeters in diameter. The egg-shaped, red and green fruits reach a diameter of 8 millimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Matucana weberbaueri is in the Peruvian region of Amazonas in Otuzco on the east side of the Río Marañón in Balsas used in altitudes from 2,000 to 2,100 meters.

It was first described as Echinocactus weberbaueri in 1913 by Friedrich Karl Johann Vaupel . Curt Backeberg placed the species in the genus Matucana in 1939 .

Synonyms are Submatucana weberbaueri (Vaupel) hort. (no year, nom. invalid ICBN article 29.1) and Borzicactus weberbaueri (Vaupel) Donald (1971).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
