Matylda Krzykowski

Matylda Krzykowski (* 1982 in Świebodzice , Poland) is a German-Polish designer and curator .

Matylda Krzykowski is a graduate of the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht . She was a visiting professor at the Muthesius Kunsthochschule Kiel in the industrial design / interface design department and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the AIADO ( Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects ) department. She has been teaching at the Bern University of the Arts since 2018 . In addition to teaching, she gives lectures in the fields of design and architecture and is also a member of the jury.

Projects

Krzykowski's work includes numerous exhibitions in the form of curation and scenography . She realizes international exhibitions in the context of biennials, galleries and museums. Krzykowski directs her thematic focus on the role of women creators in the design business. Her work here is to make the structural problems that designers encounter in their work visible. During her studies she initiated the independent blog Matandme.com in 2007 . Here she portrayed the work, ideas and life of designers in their respective studios and during exhibitions.

From 2011 to 2017 she was co-founder and artistic director of the internationally active "Depot Basel", a discourse space for contemporary design in Basel. The aim of Depot Basel is to make contemporary design visible beyond the existing commercial structures as a place for contemporary design. The initiative won prizes, including a. the Basel Culture Prize 2012 and the Swiss Design Award 2013. After the premises at Voltaplatz were closed, the group developed an online presence, the “Online Depot”, which was nominated for the Swiss Design Award in 2017 .

In 2017 she designed an exhibition with specially produced design objects for the New York Chamber Gallery together with exclusively female designers. Under the label “Foreign Legion”, she and Vera Sacchetti realized the exhibition “Add to the Cake” in the Kunstgewerbemuseum Dresden in Pillnitz Castle in 2019 .

Together with Annika Frye , she initiated the Muthesius Parallax project , a project by students at the Muthesius Art College . With Jonathan Salomon she curated the 2019 design show “Always Sure, Never Certain” at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.
