Maud Fontenoy (born September 7, 1977 in Meaux , France) is a French water sports enthusiast.

She is particularly known for her ocean rides in rowing boats : She was the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean from June 13 ( Saint-Pierre and Miquelon off the Canadian Newfoundland ) to October 10, 2003 ( A Coruña in Spain) and about halfway through of the Pacific Ocean from January 12 ( Callao in Peru) to March 26, 2005 (Hiva Oa, one of the Marquesas islands in French Polynesia ).

From October 15, 2006 to March 14, 2007, Fontenoy circumnavigated the Antarctic from Réunion as a single-handed sailor in her sailboat L'Oréal Paris (ex Adrien of the sailor Jean-Luc Van Den Heede) . She chose the heavier direction against the prevailing winds and covered a distance of around 16,700 km (9,000 nautical miles ). The sailing route was not recognized as an official circumnavigation . This was confirmed by the World Speed Sailing Records Council's newsletter No. 128, which said: “The WSSR rule for circumnavigations - rule 26a - requires the boat to have a minimum orthodromic distance of at least 21,600 nautical miles [approx. 40,000 km] (the distance of a great circle).
