MBS Nuremberg (formerly Maul-Belser Studios) is a German service company based in Nuremberg . The full-service agency works in the fields of advertising , photography , e-commerce services and digital. The company emerged from the Maul-Belser printing works that were merged in 1982. MBS is now part of the Bertelsmann Printing Group , Europe's largest printing group.

history

After the Second World War , gravure printing became a widespread printing technique . In 1976 Bertelsmann took over the two traditional printing companies Maul & Co. from Nuremberg and Chr. Belser from Stuttgart . In 1982 both companies were merged under the name Maul-Belser. Schickedanz Holding, which joined Maul & Co. in 1971, remained a minority shareholder with 25% of Maul-Belser. The company developed into one of the employers with the highest turnover in Central Franconia . Maul-Belser received more attention in the late 1980s, among other things, because the company received an order to print part of the print run of the news magazine Der Spiegel . This led to conflicts over a works agreement that regulated working hours differently from the collective agreement .

In addition to the printing company, the Maul-Belser Studios division advanced to become a leading service provider for the advertising industry in Europe. At the beginning of the 1990s, the company positioned itself for the first time as a full-service agency for conception, layout and photography. In order to stand out from the increasing competition from other European countries, Maul-Belser also built a new printing center in Nuremberg from 1993 for over 130 million German marks. It was one of the world's first gravure presses with a width of 3.5 meters. By the end of the 1990s the number of employees rose to over 1,200 with a turnover of one billion marks .

Gunter Thielen shaped the company in the 1980s and 1990s . In addition to managing Maul-Belser, he was in charge of Bertelsmann's printing and industrial division. In 1999, it was given the name Arvato to illustrate the change to an international communications and media service provider. Maul-Belser's business fit this strategy, which is why, according to media reports, Bertelsmann expressed interest in acquiring the remaining shares as early as 2004. The ailing retail group KarstadtQuelle owned by the Schickedanz family still held 25% and only officially put it up for sale in 2005. In the same year, Arvato, Gruner + Jahr and Axel Springer pooled their printing activities in the Prinovis company. Bertelsmann initially brought in 75% of Maul-Belser and then negotiated the sale with KarstadtQuelle, which was completed in 2006.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Prinovis, the largest gravure printing company in Europe, the Maul-Belser Studios became "MBS". In 2011 the company was realigned as a "company for perception and visualization". When the Bertelsmann Printing Group was founded on January 1, 2016, MBS and its parent company Prinovis moved under the umbrella of the new group of companies . MBS is one of 13 largely independent business units there.

Services

The company operates as an advertising agency for start-ups , medium -sized and large companies. It designs, creates and produces advertisements, catalogs and campaigns for various industries. MBS maintains its own studios for photography , which together cover more than 5,000 square meters. Fashion photography is one of the most important fields of work . In addition, MBS supports its customers in setting up and maintaining online shops , including technology and logistics ( e-commerce ). The expansion of the digital area as the company's fourth pillar completes the range with state-of-the-art solutions for web, desktop and mobile. With over 120 employees today, MBS is one of the largest communications agencies in the region.
