The Bertelsmann Printing Group is a German group of companies in the printing industry with headquarters in Gütersloh . It was founded in 2016 and is the market leader among offset and gravure printing companies in Europe . The Bertelsmann Printing Group is part of the international media, services and education group Bertelsmann .

history

In 2005, Bertelsmann and Axel Springer merged their gravure printing operations under the Prinovis umbrella . The reasons for this were, among other things, the industry-wide drop in prices and overcapacities. The joint venture was based in Hamburg and has been the market leader in Europe from the start. Bertelsmann indirectly owned 74.9 percent, 37.45 percent each went to the subsidiaries Arvato and Gruner + Jahr . Axel Springer's share was 25.1 percent. In 2012, Prinovis again became part of Be Printers , a newly created Bertelsmann division for the majority of printing companies. This step was part of a major restructuring of the group under the CEO Thomas Rabe , who took office in 2012 . In 2015, Axel Springer sold its stake in Prinovis, making Bertelsmann the company's sole shareholder. This gave Bertelsmann the opportunity to further simplify the structures of its printing operations.

Shortly after the restructuring, Bertelsmann announced in November 2015 that it would found the Bertelsmann Printing Group with effect from January 1, 2016. All of Be Printers' printing plants and the printing operations that previously belonged to the Arvato service subsidiary were bundled under the umbrella of the new group of companies. In addition, some service and production businesses were added, for example the storage media manufacturer Sonopress. At the time it was founded, the Bertelsmann Printing Group generated around 1.7 billion euros annually and had over 8,000 employees. Regardless of the merger, the brands of the individual printing, service and production companies were retained. In the course of the financial year it made a significant contribution to the positive earnings situation of the entire group. In 2017, other digital marketing companies moved from Arvato to the Bertelsmann Printing Group.

structure

The Bertelsmann Printing Group has been one of eight Bertelsmann divisions since 2016. It includes all of Bertelsmann's global offset and gravure printing operations, as well as some service and production businesses. These are the companies AZ Direct, Berryville Graphics, Campaign, Coral Graphics, DeutschlandCard, GGP Media , MBS , Mohn Media , Offset Paperback Manufacturers (OPM), Prinovis, the rtv media group , Sonopress and Vogel Druck.

Initially, Bertram Stausberg and Axel Hentrei, two chief executive officers with equal rights, headed the Bertelsmann Printing Group. Since Bertram Stausberg's retirement in autumn 2016, Axel Hentrei has headed the group alone. The head office is located on Carl-Bertelsmann-Strasse in Gütersloh. There are a total of 15 locations in Germany, Great Britain and the United States, plus production facilities in Mexico and Asia.
