history
In 2012, the media and service group Bertelsmann bundled some of its printing plants under the umbrella of Be Printers. The new division comprised a total of 17 printing plants in Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Colombia and the United States. These previously belonged to the Arvato service division; only the German printing companies GGP Media , Mohn Media and Vogel Druck remained there. With 6,380 employees, Be Printers achieved sales of 1.174 billion euros in the 2012 financial year. Bertram Stausberg took over the management of the group of companies. The founding of Be Printers was part of a major restructuring of the Bertelsmann Group under the executive board chairman Thomas Rabe , who has been in office since 2012 .
In the first financial year, Be Printers mainly had to contend with criticism of the closure of the Prinovis printing plant in Itzehoe. Be Printers' sales continued to decline over the years due to company sales as well as falling prices and overcapacities on the market. For example, the news magazine Der Spiegel was lost as a customer to Mohn Media. In 2013, Be Printers' turnover fell to 1.123 billion euros, and in 2014 it was below a billion (996 million euros) for the first time. In order to stabilize the business, Be Printers sold its printing plants in Spain and Italy in 2015. Later in the year, Axel Springer's exit from the gravure printing company Prinovis gave the Group the opportunity to simplify the business structure. As of January 1, 2016, Bertelsmann combined all printing companies in the Bertelsmann Printing Group . In addition to Be Printers including Prinovis, the companies that remained with Arvato were also merged into the new group of companies, which is the market leader in Europe.
