Maureen F. McHugh , pseudonym Michael Galloglach , (born February 13, 1959 in Loveland , Ohio ) is an American science fiction writer.

Life

Maureen F. McHugh grew up in Loveland in the American state of Ohio. She studied at Ohio University and New York University , where she earned a Masters Degree in English Literature in 1984 . She lived in New York for a number of years, where she worked as a college teacher, secretary, and technical writer. She spent a year in Shijiazhuang , China, during which time she published her first short story, All in a Day's Work, under the pseudonym Michael Galloglach . She then moved to Cleveland , Ohio, where she worked as a technical writer for a company in the medical field. Here she met her future husband, Bob Yeager, whom she married in 1992. In the same year, her first novel, China Mountain Zhang (German ABC Zhang ), which was nominated for the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award and received the James Tiptree, Jr. Award and the 1993 Lambda Literary Award , appeared. Since then, she has published three more novels that have not yet been translated into German. A large number of short stories were also published, of which The Lincoln Train received the Hugo Award and the Locus Award in 1995 .

In 2004 McHugh was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma . At that time, she reported on her blog about her experiences with this disease, which she has since overcome. In addition to her writing activities, McHugh worked for the company 4orty2wo Entertainment, which develops alternate reality games . In March 2009, she and two colleagues founded her own company in this area, No Mimes Media. McHugh currently resides in Austin, Texas with her husband .
