Maureen O'Hara (economist)

Maureen Patricia O'Hara (* 1950 ) is an Irish - American economist .

Career, research and teaching

O'Hara studied at the University of Manchester before moving to the University of Illinois . There she graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics. She then moved to Northwestern University . After graduating with a Master of Arts in Economics in 1976, she completed her Ph.D. -Degree in finance .

After completing her studies, O'Hara moved to Cornell University , where she initially researched and taught as an assistant professor . From 1985 associate professor at the university, she was appointed full professor there in 1989 . In 1993 she took over the Robert W. Purcell Chair for Public Finance and Economics . Since 2016 she has also been teaching at the University of Technology, Sydney .

O'Hara has been a Fellow of the American Finance Association since 2002 . She has received the organization's Smith Breeden Prize several times for her work .

The main focus of O'Hara's work lies in the market microstructure , in particular she dealt with high-frequency trading , the role of financial intermediaries and the regulation of and transparency in the functioning of securities trading.
