Maurice Pardé

Maurice Edmond Pardé (born December 4, 1893 in Senlis , Oise department , † June 14, 1973 in Nancy , Meurthe-et-Moselle department ) was a French hydrologist.

Life

Pardé studied geography in Nancy and Dijon , where he graduated in 1915. He then worked as a high school teacher in various cities. In 1925 he received his doctorate with a thesis in the field of river science (potamology). It was published in the magazine Revue de Géographie Alpine .

After Padré's attempt to establish an institute for hydrology in Grenoble had failed, he became an assistant at the École nationale supérieure d`hydraulique et de mécanique de Grenoble (ENSHMG) in 1930. In 1932 he moved to the University of Grenoble as a lecturer , where he was given the chair of physical geography in 1935. He was the founder of the Institute for Alpine Geography. In 1966 he retired.

On January 18, 1965, he became a corresponding member of the Académie des Sciences . He was an officer in the Legion of Honor and an honorary doctorate from the University of Bonn .

Pardé published numerous highly regarded works on hydrology, especially on the Alpine region. The Pardé coefficient was named after him.
