Maurice César Joseph Pellé (born April 18, 1863 in Douai , † March 16, 1924 in Toulon ) was a French general.

Life

Pellé studied at the École polytechnique and École supérieure de guerre , both in Paris. He served as French military attaché in Germany from 1909 to 1912. During World War I, Pellé worked in the Grand Quartier Général (GQG) , the high command of the French army, as chief of staff from March 22 to December 10, 1915. From December 11, 1915 Until April 19, 1916 he was chief of staff for operations outside France ( Théâtres d'opérations extérieurs ) and then served again as chief of staff until the end of 1916.

On December 19, 1916 he took over the leadership of the 153rd Division, which he led during the Battle of the Aisne in the unsuccessful mass storms on Chemin des Dames . On May 2, 1917, he rose to Général de division and was appointed commander of the V Corps. In the spring of 1918 he led his corps as part of the 3rd Army under General Georges Louis Humbert in the Crozat sector in the defense of the German spring offensive ( company Michael ).

After the government of the newly founded Czechoslovakia made a request to the French government in 1918 to provide assistance in the creation of the new Czechoslovak army , and after corresponding contracts were signed in January 1919, the newly established French military mission took part in the Czechoslovakia started work in Prague. Maurice Pellé was appointed as its commander, who in this function was also appointed chief of the Czechoslovak General Staff. In 1920 he was followed by General Eugène Mittelhauser . On June 4, 1919, after the troops of the Hungarian Soviet Republic first successfully attacked southern Slovakia and established the Slovak Soviet Republic , Pellé was appointed by President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk as Commander in Chief of the Czechoslovak Army.

From 1922 to 1924 Pellé worked in Constantinople as an Allied High Commissioner .
