Maurice Raizman

Maurice Raizman (originally Miron Raizman ; born February 26, 1905 in Bendery , Russian Empire (now Moldova ), † April 1, 1974 in Paris ) was a French chess player .

Raizman came from Bessarabia , which was part of the Russian Empire when he was born and which was added to Romania after the First World War , but took French citizenship in 1931. Raizman won the French individual championship six times (1932, 1936, 1946, 1947, 1951 and 1952) and was a record holder for years (it was not until 2012 that Étienne Bacrot managed to outdo this brand with his seventh title).

He participated with the French national team in the Chess Olympiads in 1935 , 1954 , 1958 and 1972 . For the French national team he also took part in several international matches, for example in 1946 against Australia, 1947 against Czechoslovakia and 1954 against the Soviet Union. His highest historical rating was 2477 in March 1936. Raizman worked as an engineer for the RATP . He was a member of the Paris club Caïssa and won the French team cup with it in 1954.
