Maurits Jacob van Löben Sels (born May 1, 1876 in Meppen , † October 4, 1944 in Velp ) was a Dutch fencer .
Life
Maurits van Löben Sels took part in the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens and the 1908 Olympic Games in London . In Athens he won bronze with the saber together with James Melvill van Carnbée , George van Rossem and Johannes Osten in the team competition. In the individual, he was eliminated with the foil and the saber in the preliminary round, with the sword he finished sixth. In the saber competition on three hits, he qualified for the final round, but did not finish it. In 1908 he retired in the individual competitions with the sword and the saber again in the first round, while he finished fifth with the saber team.
Van Löben Sels was an officer in the Dutch infantry . His father and uncle were politicians who both sat for the Anti-Revolutionaire Partij in the Dutch Senate .
