James Arnaud Henri Louis Melvill van Carnbée (born August 11, 1867 in The Hague , † January 4, 1944 in Zeist ) was a Dutch fencer and baron .

Life

James Melvill van Carnbée took part in the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens . In these he won bronze with the saber together with Maurits van Löben Sels , George van Rossem and Johannes Osten in the team competition. In the individual he was eliminated with the sword and also in both saber competitions in the preliminary round. He was a member of the Koninklijke Officiers Schermbond in The Hague .

Van Carnbée comes from a noble family with Irish ancestors who had a long history in the navy. So he also joined the marine infantry and rose to become captain . He was stationed in the Dutch East Indies and Berlin, among others . He later ran a military gymnastics school and was a board member of the Dutch Amateur Law Association.
