Franz Welczek

Franz Xaver Alexander Anton Welczek (born February 8, 1825 in Jastrzigowitz , Rosenberg district, † May 10, 1901 in Kreuzburg , Upper Silesia ) was the royal chancellery, head of the city council and honorary citizen of the city of Kreuzburg .

Welczek was the son of the royal Prussian customs collector Franz Welczeck (1796–1886) and his wife Anna, née. Hertel. (* approx. 1799–1834) Franz Welczek grew up until the age of about 10 in Rosenberg in Upper Silesia and then in Woischnik Krs. Lublinitz .

In February 1851 he became a district court clerk in Kreuzburg, Upper Silesia. Since January 7, 1862 he was a member of the local city ​​council , which he chaired since January 12, 1870. Promoted to secretary of the district court in Kreuzburg, Kaiser Wilhelm II awarded him the honorary title of Royal Chancellery in April 1891 .

On February 22nd and 24th, 1895 the city council and the city council decided to give Welczek honorary citizenship because of his services as chairman of the city council. Welczek was jointly responsible for the fortunes of Kreuzburg up to the turn of the century and was responsible for the development of the Upper Silesian town. Only in 1924 was another person made an honorary citizen of Kreuzburg.

From July 25 to 27, 1903, the Silesian Forest Association met for the 61st General Assembly in Kreuzburg. Here Welczek was honored again posthumously. In his honor, an oak was planted in the Kreuzburg city forest "on Agnesweg". Two more trees were dedicated to the Kreuzburg-born writer Gustav Freytag and the parliamentarian Eduard Count von Bethusy-Huc . The latter was also an honorary citizen of the city.

Franz Welczek married Bertha Louise Agnes, b. Lorenz (born August 26, 1829 in Kreuzburg, † after 1902 in Breslau ). The couple had five children, three sons and two daughters. A daughter, Olga Elsbeth Anna Bertha Welczek, married the royal church music director Emil Dercks . Their daughter, the dentist Hella Dercks, married the geologist Hans von Staff called von Reitzenstein , son of the court president Adolph von Staff called von Reitzenstein .
