Maurizio Bettini

Maurizio Bettini (born July 24, 1947 in Brixen ) is an Italian classical philologist .

Life

He grew up in Livorno and was educated in Pisa . In 1970 he completed his studies under the guidance of the philologist and Latin scholar Marino Barchiesi at the University of Pisa with a thesis entitled Grecismo e neoformazione come aspetti della creatività di Plauto . In 1974 he worked as an assistant at the same university, where he became professor of Greek and Latin grammar the following year . Under the direction of the German philologist Viktor Pöschl , he conducted research on Quintus Ennius at the University of Heidelberg . In 1981 he left Pisa to take up the post of Associate Professor of Latin Literature at the University of Venice , a position he held until 1985 when he became Full Professor of Greek and Latin Philology at the University of Siena .
