Mauro Cozzoli
Mauro Cozzoli (born April 3, 1946 in Bisceglie , Apulia , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and moral theologian .
Life
Mauro Cozzoli studied at the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome and received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie on May 17, 1970 . He holds a degree in theology from Lateran University and a doctorate in moral theology from the Accademia Alfonsiana .
He is a full professor of moral theology at the Pontifical Lateran University . In addition, he teaches at the Accademia Alfonsiana and at the seminary of the church region of Apulia in Molfetta .
Since 1999 he has been spiritual at the Pontifical Roman Seminary in Rome, where he also resides.
In the German-speaking countries he is mainly seen in his role as an advisor to the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care in Health Care and as a moral theological advisor to various media. So he said on the occasion of a visit by the council in Germany to care for dementia patients. He defended the refusal of the Curia to grant the Nazi war criminal Erich Priebke a funeral in Rome, as this could be understood as a rehabilitation or trivialization of Priebke's deeds. In the case of the coma patient Eluana Englaro , Cozzoli criticized the diet as a "downright death sentence", which was confirmed by the Italian Constitutional Court.
Mauro Cozzoli has published several books and a large number of scientific articles on various moral theological and ethical topics.
