The Max Born Vocational College (formerly Kemnastraße Vocational College) is a vocational college in Recklinghausen . It is named after the German physicist and Nobel Prize winner Max Born .

overview

The school has a wide range of educational opportunities. In addition to the vocational school, there are full-time courses such as B. Abitur or technical diploma . Overall, courses are offered in the fields of construction engineering, surveying technology, electrical engineering, design, supply engineering, mechanical engineering, medical technology with orthopedic technology and hearing acoustics, and watchmaking. Since 2010, the Max Vocational College has had over 3,000 students a year, making it the largest educational institution in Recklinghausen.

history

The vocational college looks back on around 140 years of history. In 1978 the technical college became the Kemnastraße college , which in turn was called Kemnastraße vocational college from 1998 to 2006 . Since August 1st, 2006 the school has been called Max Born Vocational College due to a move . The physicist and Nobel Prize winner Max Born visited Recklinghausen many times because of his friendship with the Still entrepreneurial family, where he taught mathematics and physics to mining engineers. In 2006, a group of students and teachers took part in a NASA competition to develop a space elevator.

Since June 4, 2007 the vocational college has been supported by the Max and Gustav Born Foundation. The foundation was established with the support of Max Born's son, Gustav Born. The Max Born Vocational College has been a European school since August 26, 2009 . In December 2014, the vocational college was recertified.

Since 2010, the vocational college has set up an official TV teaching desk, funded by the State Media Authority in North Rhine-Westphalia. Here the pupils have the opportunity to produce their own television programs and broadcast them nationwide via the nrwision TV learning channel .

The vocational college has had a 3D printing center since 2017. Since February 1, 2018, Senior Studies Director Simone Holl has been the head of the Max Born Vocational College. She followed Dr. Lorenz Schultes-Bannert, who headed the Max Born Vocational College from 2000 to 2018.

building

Old building

The old ensemble of buildings on Kemnastraße was recently badly damaged by mountain damage . The oldest part of the school was a building over 100 years old. As the number of students increased significantly over the years, an extension was added and the building of a former mining vocational school was also used. In addition, residential containers were set up in the schoolyard to avoid the acute lack of space. Since the sports hall was also no longer able to cope with the requirements, the halls of the Petrinum Recklinghausen grammar school and the Paulusschule had to be used. Since the room capacity was still insufficient due to these measures, Saturday classes and a timetable from 7:15 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. were recently introduced in order to spread the number of students as widely as possible.

New building

On March 4, 2005, the foundation stone was laid for the new Vest Campus on the site of the former Blumenthal 3/4 colliery. The campus area is close to the main train station , which is cheap because the college has a relatively large catchment area and is therefore easy to reach. In addition to the Max Born vocational college, the new Herwig Blankertz vocational college and a sports hall were built by 2008. The sports hall has five separable fields, a climbing wall , a ballet hall and has a capacity of 800 (expandable to 1200) spectator seats. The buildings are U-shaped around the schoolyard; On the open side there is a parking lot for schoolchildren and teachers, in the middle of which there is a small block power plant that is operated with mine gas .
