Max Bedacht Sr (born October 13, 1883 in Munich - † July 4, 1972 ) was an American communist politician and one of the co-founders of predecessor organizations of the US Communist Party and the CPUSA itself.

Life

In Germany born wisely was the son of a single mother, this was in the days of conservative -oriented Empire uncommon. In 1905 he first worked in party politics when he joined the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland . He did this because he worked as a hairdresser both in the German Reich and in Switzerland . He did not emigrate to the USA until 1908, and in the same year he also joined the Socialist Party of America (SPA). From 1913 to 1917 Bedacht worked as an editor in San Francisco on the German-language newspaper Vorwärts , while Bedacht also took part in German-language publications in Detroit and South Dakota . His end as a forward editor was brought about by a stricter law regulating journalistic publications, which resulted in the discontinuation of the forward . With the publication of the newspaper The New Era , Bedacht made an attempt to keep his profession, but this was short-lived, so that he was soon again working as a hairdresser in San Francisco. In 1919, Bedacht left the SPA as it split into the SPA, the Communist Labor Party of America (CLP) and the Communist Party of America (CPA). Considered became a CLP member and thus joined the group around Alfred Wagenknecht , with whom he was linked by correspondence and a similar biography. However, as early as 1921, the CLP and CPA merged completely. The CLP and CPA have also been driven into illegality. Party work could, to the best of our knowledge, lead to imprisonment. From 1939 Bedacht finally became editor of the Fraternal outlook , a monthly newspaper.
