Max Gerwig

Max Carl Gerwig (born December 30, 1889 in Basel ; † May 10, 1965 there ) was a Swiss lawyer .

Max Gerwig studied law at the Universities of Basel , Heidelberg and Leipzig . In 1919 he was a co-founder of the socialist weekly newspaper Der Aufbau . He worked as a judge, as governor at the civil court and as president of the appellate court of the canton of Basel-Stadt . He also taught at the University of Basel. Until 1938 he was president of the university's board of trustees. From 1945 to 1954 he was a full professor for private law and civil procedural law at the University of Basel. His main work is: Swiss Cooperative Law (1957).

The politician Andreas Gerwig (1928–2014) was his son.
