Max Goldschmidt
Max Goldschmidt (born March 28, 1864 in Mainz , † November 10, 1920 in Berlin ) was a German humorist and folk singer .
Life
Max Goldschmidt was born Maximilian Joseph Goldschmidt on March 28, 1864 in Mainz in Rheinhessen .
At the end of the 19th century he appeared in Frankfurt am Main as a humorist and writer of songs and lectures. In the Frankfurt Carnival he played a role alongside August Schmitter as a political hand-made speaker .
Shortly after the turn of the century, Goldschmidt made a series of recordings with recitations and humorous lectures at the Gramophone Company in Hanover , both on small 7 "and 10" records.
Many of his texts have local references to Frankfurt am Main: the Waldbahn , the Zeil , the Hauptwache , the Zoological Garden . There are also historical references: one lecture deals with department stores, another with the tram; all things that came up anew in Goldschmidt's time and that he sang about in his songs, as well as a "big fire in Frankfort" or "a misfortune on the Zeil", the appearance of the dog catcher or the joys of the Frankfurters at the Äbbelwoi.
Text output
A collection of his songs and lectures was published under the title "Frankfurter Humor" in 1895 by Blazek in Frankfurt am Main.
