Max Jessner (doctor)

Max Jessner (born November 2, 1887 in Stolp , † August 27, 1978 in Switzerland ) was a German dermatologist and university professor .

Life

Max Jessner, born on November 2, 1887 as the son of the dermatologist and lecturer at the University of Königsberg Samuel Jessner (1859–1929) in Stolp, studied medicine at the universities of Munich and Königsberg before becoming a doctor of medicine in 1910. med. received his doctorate . As a result he completed a dermatological training at the dermatological clinics in Breslau under Albert Neisser and in Bern under Joseph Jadassohn , where he received an assistant position in 1912. In 1920 he switched to the University of Breslau as senior physician with Jadassohn, who succeeded the late Albert Neisser.

After his habilitation there in 1922 , he was appointed associate professor in 1926, before succeeding Josef Jadassohn on his chair in 1931 . In 1935 he was forced to resign because of his Jewish descent. Heinrich Gottron, who was favored by the National Socialist regime , was appointed as his successor .

Jessner first emigrated to Switzerland , then to New York in 1941 . After finishing his scientific career, Jessner moved back to Switzerland, where he died on June 27, 1978 at the age of 91.

Act

Mainly Jessner devoted himself in his research work to immunology and protozoal diseases . The name Jessner is associated with the lymphocytic infiltration Jessner-Kanof, a disease first described by Jessner and Norman B. Kanof in 1953.
