Max Köhler (draftsman)
Max Köhler (born May 23, 1886 in Kiel ; † November 26, 1920 ibid) was a German painter and draftsman .
Life
Max Köhler was born as the second son of the teacher Wilhelm Köhler and attended the painting and drawing school of Messrs. Stoltenberg and Burmester in Kiel from 1904 to 1906. He then continued his studies at the Royal. academic college for the fine arts in Charlottenburg, where he was assigned to the drawing class of Prof. Hancke. From 1907 to 1910 Köhler studied with interruptions partly at the Heidner painting school and partly in Munich . In Munich he was enrolled with Gabriel von Hackl , during which time he was strongly influenced by Peter Halm and Hermann Groeber . He conducted further studies in Charlottenburg and with Lovis Corinth . From 1911 onwards, Max Köhler went on study trips to Bavaria and his home provinces, during which he created several charcoal drawings of people and oil paintings of landscapes. From the beginning of 1915 until the end of the war he served in the German military. During the war, most of the paintings were destroyed in a bomb attack in Kiel. In July 1919 Köhler fell ill with tuberculosis and died on November 26, 1920.
