Max Moor (botanist)

Max Moor (born May 8, 1911 in Basel ; † May 10, 1988 there ) was a Swiss botanist and pioneer of Swiss plant sociology .

Life

The son of a porter studied biology at the University of Basel , where he was particularly interested in botany . After graduating, he entered the school service as a middle school teacher. He wrote his dissertation on the subject of "On the Sociology of Isoëtetalia " in 1936 under Gustav Senn (1875–1945).

Moor was one of the most prominent plant sociologists in Switzerland. He published numerous scientific papers on vegetation science using the Braun-Blanquet method , with a particular focus of his research on the mutual relationships between vegetation and environmental factors.
