Max Roessler

Max Rössler (born January 7, 1940 ) is a Swiss investor and patron .

Life

Max Walter Rössler attended the canton school at Burggraben in St. Gallen, where he graduated with the Matura . He then studied mathematics at the ETH Zurich , where he received his doctorate from Eduard Stiefel with a dissertation on orbital calculations in space travel ( celestial mechanics ) in 1966. This was followed by a stay at Harvard University in Cambridge (Massachusetts) , USA, to carry out a research contract for NASA to calculate space orbits. He then was a lecturer in applied mathematics and operations research at the ETH Zurich .

In 1978 Rössler switched to finance. At Schweizerische Kreditanstalt, he was responsible for the analysis department of fixed-income investments and the management of investment funds with a volume of CHF 12 billion . Later he managed facilities at the Swiss Accident Insurance Fund (SUVA). He successfully used the knowledge he gained in the financial sector for his own investments. His considerable assets include stakes in several Swiss companies. He is the main shareholder in the construction company Implenia through his Parmino Holding AG . Due to his influence on the composition of the Implenia management team, Rössler has become increasingly known to the public. In addition, Rössler holds a significant stake in the machine tool company Starrag Group and is a board member of other companies such as RSB Securities AG, Global Care and SunVesta Holding. He has also made loans from Precious Woods . He is also an advisor to Swiss private banks. At the Rütli Foundation, which is affiliated with the private bank Reichmuth & Co , Rössler was a member of the board of trustees.

His private fortune enabled him to make large donations . For example, with a donation of 10 million Swiss francs to the ETH Foundation from 2009 onwards , he financed the annual Rössler Prize for the support of excellent young professors at ETH Zurich. The prize money is 200,000 Swiss francs. In addition, another significant donation together with the Walter Haefner Foundation enabled the establishment of the new Institute for Theoretical Studies at ETH Zurich in 2013.
