Max Sessner
Max Sessner (* 1959 in Fürth ) is a German poet .
life and work
Max Sessner was born in Fürth in Bavaria and now lives in Augsburg . In the short vita in his collection of poems Kitchens and Trains , Sessner is referred to by his publishing house Droschl not only as a poet, but also as a “bookseller, motorcyclist, antiquarian, dog owner”.
Max Sessner only writes poetry. The appearance of his texts often has a compact, block-like or stele-like shape. The content is not uncommon for little stories: “... the aunts / are there smiling, give me change and ask what I / want to become / they say the ghost of a / boy who drowned last year / while swimming. .. "
In Sessner's texts, readers often find themselves in dining rooms or dark kitchens and in a melancholy mood. There are quite a few surrealistic elements in these poems: whimpering tables, whispering coats or a bicycle that was "eaten away by rust and half by sadness." However, wrote the literary magazine “ die horen ”, Sessner is not a surrealist. On the contrary, he is a precise observer of reality. “But he doesn't stop there. He traces everything that lies behind the things, the movements, the sentences. ”The magazine judges:“ Max Sessner looks at the world with melancholy, with amazement and with a lot of love ”. And to the fact that the author closes himself off every sorting in drawers, every fashion, it says in the "horen": "Nobody writes like Sessner."
The " Nürnberger Zeitung " called Sessner an "exceptional talent" who wrote " Nürnberger Nachrichten ": "He conjures up a fairytale-like moment out of everyday life in no time at all."
Several of Sessner's poems have been translated into Spanish and published by Maria Arce Barreiro , and Sessner is represented as an author in various magazines and anthologies (such as the Yearbook of Poetry ).
In addition, the American poet and translator Francesca Bell has translated a number of Sessner's poems into English. They have already been published in English-language literary magazines. a. Rattle, Mid-American Review, and Art Poetry Magazine.
