Max Theodor Wappler (born August 11, 1860 in Johanngeorgenstadt ; † March 8, 1932 in Annaberg ) was a German educator and local researcher from the Erzgebirge .

Life

Wappler, who comes from a mining family in Johanngeorgenstadt, became school director in the town of Zöblitz in 1895 after studying pedagogy . He held this office until his retirement in 1922. He was elected chairman of the Erzgebirgszweigverein Zöblitz and in this function organized numerous tourist events, some of which were of national importance.

From 1913 to 1929 he worked part-time as the Oberwegemeister of the Ore Mountains Association and played a key role in the development of the long-distance hiking network in the Ore Mountains, including the popular Ore Mountain Ridge Trail . It is thanks to him that the Erzgebirgsverein's path names have been changed from the diversity that was prevalent at the time to six plain white characters, the clear implementation of the hiking trails and the reworking of the large hiking map of the Erzgebirge. He also made a lasting name for himself as a local researcher.

Because of his lasting merits, he was made an honorary member of the Erzgebirgsverein in October 1924.
