Max Wenzel (legal scholar)

Max Wenzel (* 1882 in Bernkastel-Kues ; † January 16, 1967 ) was a German law scholar and constitutional law teacher .

Wenzel first studied in Freiburg and was then a student of Philipp Zorn at the University of Bonn . There he completed his habilitation in 1913. He was appointed to Rostock in 1920 and to Erlangen in 1928 for the late Karl Rieker .

Wenzel was a founding member of the Association of German Constitutional Law Teachers .

After 1945, Wenzel defended lawyers burdened by National Socialism . In 1947 he was denazified as a fellow traveler, appointed professor of constitutional law, administrative law and international law at the University of Erlangen and retired at the same time. Since 1949 he was a lecturer at the Philosophical-Theological University of Bamberg . In 1953 his retirement was converted into an emeritus state; he taught until 1957.
