Maximilian Blumenthal

Maximilian Blumenthal (born April 19, 1856 in Pölitz ; † April 7, 1910 ) was a German historian and librarian .

Life

Born as the son of a court advisor, Blumenthal graduated from the grammar school in Greifenberg in Pomerania in autumn 1873 and devoted himself to historical-philological studies in Leipzig and Greifswald , where he became a member of the Corps Baltia. After a temporary job as a private teacher, he continued his academic training in Berlin. In 1881 he received his doctorate in Göttingen Dr. phil. and became an assistant at the Royal Library in Berlin. After the state examination in 1888, he became custodian of the library. In 1901 he was transferred to the university library and in 1904 appointed senior librarian. Blumenthal published numerous historical articles in the Vossische Zeitung and other papers as well as several monographs on German history.
