Maximilian Lorenz (born February 8, 1991 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German chef .

Life

Lorenz gained his first experience as a chef from 2002 to 2008 during various internships in renowned top restaurants in the Rhineland - for example in "La Société" with Mario Kotaska, in "Mâitre" with Erhard Schäfer, in "Schloss Morsbroich" in Leverkusen and in the "Sonne" with Eiko Scharfenberger in Overath. He completed his training as a chef in the restaurant "Zur Post" with Christopher Wilbrand in Odenthal , where he then worked as a sous- chef until 2012 . After a short time, at the age of 21, he took over “L'escalier” in Cologne as owner and chef. In the same year he was voted Newcomer of the Year by Gusto . With the “L'escalier” Lorenz received his first Michelin star in 2016 , 16 points in Gault Millau and was accepted by the Jeunes Restaurateurs .

On June 1, 2018, Maximilian Lorenz opened his new gourmet restaurant “maximilian lorenz” and the wine bar “heinzhermann” in the former “Wein am Rhein” in Cologne's Johannisstrasse. In the restaurant, Maximilian Lorenz presents his German “aromatic cuisine”, which he has refined together with his head chef Enrico Hirschfeld . Only German wines are served with the menus and the individual courses in the restaurant. In the wine bar, there are more than 1,400 items on the wine list from the most important growing regions in the world.

Shortly after the opening in November 2018, Maximilian Lorenz and Enrico Hirschfeld were awarded 17 points by Gault Millau as “Newcomers of the year in North Rhine-Westphalia”, and in February 2019 the new restaurant received its first Michelin star.

Other projects by Maximilian Lorenz are the “pig bull BBQ” opened in 2015 and the take-away snack bar SMAX, both in Cologne. Lorenz and three friends took over the traditional “Alter Lindenhof” inn in Bergisch Gladbach in May 2017 and reopened it under a new concept.
