The European Geography Association (EGEA) is an organization that serves to exchange knowledge between geography students and young geographers . It was founded in 1987 and is headquartered in Utrecht .

history

The EGEA was founded in 1987 by geography students from universities in Warsaw , Utrecht and Barcelona . From 1988 the EGEA was already an officially registered association with its seat in Utrecht, the Netherlands . In 1996 the first EGEA website went online and became the central place for knowledge exchange between students from all over Europe. The European Geography Association has been organized in the form of a society since 2009.

activities

EGEA organizes a large number of projects, both at national and international level. The focus is on exchanges between the partner schools and scientific congresses and seminars .

Regions

The EGEA has grown steadily since it was founded by three universities, so that the company today unites 90 local branches, so-called " entities " in 37 countries. These are divided into four geographic regions. Each of these regions elects a contact person who represents the members of that region. These are supported by regional assistants.

Board

The EGEA is led by a five-member board . This consists of the chairman , his deputy , a treasurer , a secretary and one person for PR and events. The board is elected at a general assembly of the EGEA. The board of directors represents the executive part of society and is based in Utrecht. In 2016/2017, Simon Schudel from Entity Zurich held the position of chairman.

Commissions that are responsible for the most important activities of the EGEA play an important role in the operation of the EGEA. The following commissions exist:
