Maximilian Schäfer (born June 14, 1851 in Berlin , † July 21, 1916 on a cure in Salzschlirf ) was a German portrait and genre painter , book illustrator and specialist writer .

Life

Shepherd lived in Berlin, where he was a professor at the Royal Academic College of Fine Arts and the Museum of Decorative Arts taught. He had previously been a student at the Berlin Academy of the Arts and the art school in Weimar . His teachers included Theodor Hagen , F. Schauss and Alexander Struys . From 1896 he headed the Berlin University of Fine Arts . He illustrated, among other things, a German edition of Robinson Crusoe , “Die Familie Schrötter” by Marie Silling and an edition of Der Schatz des Kaziken by Eginhard von Barfus .

His students included Ernst Hase , Paul Adolf Hauptmann , Charlotte Berend-Corinth , Wilhelm Rex , Fritz W. Schulz , August Böcher, Fritz Peters-Weber, Ernst Dagen, Erna Schmidt (married Petraschek?).
