Maximilianstrasse 25 is the name of a listed building in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Speyer . The three-storey patrician house was built in 1704 and is part of the Maximilianstrasse monument zone between the old gate and the imperial cathedral .

location

The house is on the south side of Maximilianstrasse. Eight, with one exception, three-storey residential and commercial buildings form a closed section of late baroque buildings, starting with number 22 (Einhorn-Apotheke) from 1703. The builders were mayors and councilors.

history

The houses on both sides of Speyerer Hauptstrasse and Marktstrasse were destroyed in the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689 and mostly rebuilt between 1698 and 1720. The builder of today's number 25 was the councilor and trader Georg Heinrich Kümmich, who was citizen and senior master of the imperial city from 1717 to 1731 . The grocer Kümmich, who had two daughters, sold the property to the future mayor Joh. Carl Alexander Holtzmann (1699–1784), who had completed part of his apprenticeship with him. Holtzmann later lived in today's number 27. House number 25 came to his son of the same name (1759-1820), who also worked as a donut manufacturer and later also became mayor.

More recently, the building has been fitted with a modern shop fitting on the ground floor. Since then, the house has been renovated to preserve the existing structure. There is currently a jewelry store on the ground floor (as of 2019).

description

The residential building in the late baroque style has three floors. The facade of the plastered building is divided up into the two attic floors by cornices . It has three window axes and faces north. The windows no longer have their old division, their simple reveal is not drilled . A shop with modern shop windows is installed on the ground floor.

A former, narrow alley in the east of the property is now closed by a door.
