The Maxwell River is a river in the southwest of the Australian state of Tasmania .

River course

The river has its source on River Peak South , which lies in the Prince of Wales Range in the center of the Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park . It flows south and joins the Denison River west of the south end of the Prince of Wales Range .

On its entire course, the Maxwell River flows through unpopulated areas in the national park.
