May Skaf (born April 15, 1969 in Ashrafiyya , Lebanon , † July 23, 2018 in Dourdan ) was a Lebanese-Syrian film and television actress, comedian and activist .

Life

Skaf made her acting debut in 1993 in the drama Echoes of Sides directed by Maher Kaddo. In addition, she played from 2005 to 2011 in a leading role Al Yamamah in the historical series Akher Ayyam Al Yamamah .

She gained notoriety in May 2011 when she was part of a group of public figures who sparked a revolt in the civil war in Syria . On July 13, 2011, Skaf was arrested in Damascus by security authorities and arrested along with a group of authors, journalists and artists. Four days later, on July 18, she and her fellow inmates were released. The 30 briefly arrested artists became a symbol of the revolt against the Assad regime.

In the summer of 2016, she again caused a stir when she demonstrated against European refugee policy by volunteering as one of the volunteers who wanted to be eaten by Libyan tigers. The campaign for the introduction of a legal route for the immigration of refugees was organized under the name "Refugees eat - distress and games" in front of the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin . The project was an action by the artist Philipp Ruch .

She died on July 23, 2018 in exile in Paris at the age of 49 of a heart attack.
