Sheikh Isaaq's tomb
|
Maydh or Mait is a town and port on the Gulf of Aden in the Sanaag region in Somaliland / Northern Somalia .
Along with Zeila , Berbera and Heis, Maydh was one of the places on the coast of northern Somalia where Arab and Persian traders settled.
In Maydh is the tomb of Sheikh Isaaq, the progenitor of the Somali clan of Isaaq , which is the destination of pilgrimages. Cattle are mainly exported to the states of the Arabian Peninsula via the port of Maydh, but this port is far less important than that of Berbera .
Off the coast is Maydh Island (Jasiira Maydh) .
