Mayhew Folger
Mayhew Folger (born March 9, 1774 in Nantucket , Massachusetts , † September 1, 1828 in Massillon , Ohio ) was an American seafarer and seal hunter.
On February 6, 1808, Folger landed on Pitcairn as captain of the Topaz and rediscovered the island. The last survivor of the mutiny on the Bounty , John Adams , follower handed the azimuth - compass and the chronometer of the Bounty . Both items were later confiscated by the Spanish governor of the Juan Fernández archipelago , today the compass is in the British Museum in London , the chronometer in the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich .
