Mayumba is a city in southern Gabon on the Atlantic coast .
geography
Mayumba is located on a peninsula 20 kilometers north of the Mayumba National Park, the only national park in Gabon that is dedicated to the protection of marine animals. The Banio lagoon separates the town from the mainland. Mayumba is known for its long sandy beach where leatherback turtles nest.
population
About 5200 inhabitants were counted there in 2010. The most common ethnic groups are Vili , Lumbu and Punu . The locals from Mayumba call themselves "Mayesiens".
Infrastructure
There is an airport, several small restaurants and a market. There are seven elementary schools in the area and one junior high school with about 500 students.
