The McGann Point is a 190 m high, rocky and mostly ice-free headland in East Antarctic Victoria Land . On the Hillary Coast , it is 13.6 km west-northwest of MacDonald Point on the north side of the mouth of the Darwin Glacier in the Ross Ice Shelf .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named her in 2011 after Lieutenant Colonel James McGann of the United States Air Force , who served as operations commander for flights of Boeing C-17s between Christchurch, New Zealand and McMurdo Station from 2004 to 2008 in support of the United States Antarctic Program , performing the first parachute drops of supplies using this type of aircraft over the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station and the first landing of such a machine using a night vision device at McMurdo Station.
