history

McPaper store in Rendsburg

1987 to 2005

Based on an idea and a concept and under the direction of Herlitz AG, the first McPaper franchise stores were opened in Aachen , Augsburg and Ludwigsburg in the mid-1980s . In 1987, McPaper GmbH was founded together with the REWE -Leibbrand retail group and the Christ jewelry chain . In 1990 Herlitz again took over all shares in the GmbH. Under the direction of Heinz Herlitz, expansion has now been accelerated, especially in the new federal states.

In 1995, under the chairmanship of Klaus Herlitz , the company was converted into a stock corporation. In 1998 Herlitz sold McPaper AG to Deutsche Post AG . In 2005, the two-person McPaper board of directors carried out a management buy-out . The board members Johannes Kahl (* 1955) and Axel Draheim (* 1973) were initially majority shareholders of McPaper AG.

2006 until today

JoAx GmbH has been the sole shareholder of McPaper Aktiengesellschaft since January 2006 . The two managing directors Johannes Kahl and Axel Draheim hold 37.58% and 37.52%, respectively, of the share capital of the GmbH; the remaining 24.9% are held by JoAx GmbH. As a controlled company, McPaper has a domination and profit transfer agreement with JoAx as the contractual partner. McPaper's result from ordinary business activities in 2017 was EUR 8.9 million with a turnover of EUR 101.8 million. The domination and profit and loss transfer agreement with JoAx GmbH has resulted in an annual surplus / deficit of zero in the past few years. McPaper currently operates around 368 branches across Germany on its own (as of the end of 2017).

Business purpose

The company offers the entire breadth of the stationery industry. In addition to office supplies, stationery and school supplies as well as gift items , traditional postal services are also offered in several branches. However, since the separation from Deutsche Post AG, this service has decreased a lot.
