Klaus Herlitz

Klaus Herlitz (born September 27, 1947 in Berlin ) is a German entrepreneur .

Life

Herlitz was born as the son of Edith and Günter Herlitz in Berlin, where he attended the Walther-Rathenau-Gymnasium . He has been married to Eva Herlitz since 1972 , with whom he has three sons.

1972 to 1997

After school, business studies, diploma and doctorate, he joined his father's company in 1972, which was converted into a stock corporation in 1977. Until 1997 he was a member of the Management Board of Herlitz  AG and was responsible for the areas of marketing and purchasing, at times also for finances and sales outside of German-speaking countries.

Herlitz not only ensured an environmentally friendly range in its own company (including the elimination of PVC from all office and school products), he also implemented this nationally and throughout Europe in the stationery sector (including the introduction of the chlorine-free bleached paper Aqua Pro Natura across Europe ). For his commitment he received several environmental awards, including a. by the then Federal Environment Minister Angela Merkel .

He established the Herlitz brand in the paper, office and stationery industry. Every year new product ideas were introduced to the market, among others

  • the first fountain pen with an erasing function, the Herlitz Tornado SLS ,
  • the Herlitz Aqua Color 24 paint box, which was awarded a design prize by the Museum of Modern Art ,
  • the Herlitz Masters satchel ,
  • the first exercise books with cartoon characters.

1997 to 2001

As president of the Golf and Country Club Seddiner See e. V. , Herlitz, together with the association's board of directors, succeeds in getting the golf courses south-west of Berlin, developed by HypoVereinsbank since 1994 , to be bought by association members and shareholders in December 2000. The club and the associated Golf and Country Club Seddiner See AG have been redeveloped, and the golf course is - according to the Peugeot Golf Guide - one of the top 20 in Europe today. In 2005 the general assembly appointed Herlitz honorary president of the association.

2001 until today: Buddy Bear

Together with his wife Eva Herlitz, he founded Buddy Bär Berlin GmbH in 2001 . Around 250 bear sculptures were exhibited in the streets and squares of Berlin.

A year later, the idea of ​​the United Buddy Bears was implemented for the first time . These represent over 140 member states of the United Nations. Each bear was individually designed for his home country by an artist from these countries. The artists came to Berlin from all over the world and each painted a sculpture in an open-plan studio. The diversity of artistic forms of expression is intended to reflect the diversity of people on earth.

The first two exhibitions of the United Buddy Bears took place in Berlin in 2002 and 2003 next to the Brandenburg Gate , on the area where the new American Embassy has stood since 2008 . From 2004 exhibitions all over the world followed. a. in Hong Kong , Kitzbühel ( Tyrol ), Istanbul , Tokyo , Seoul , Sydney , Vienna , Cairo , Jerusalem , Warsaw , Pyongyang , Buenos Aires , Montevideo , Astana ( Kazakhstan ), Helsinki , Sofia , Kuala Lumpur , New Delhi , Saint Petersburg , Paris , Rio de Janeiro , Havana , Santiago de Chile , Riga and Guatemala City .

Donations and auctions from Buddy Bears have raised over two million euros for UNICEF and various local children's aid organizations at home and abroad. In order to be able to help children quickly, specifically and unbureaucratically in individual cases, the Buddy Bear Help association was founded in 2004 on the initiative of Eva Herlitz.
