Eva Herlitz

Eva Herlitz (born July 28, 1952 in Solingen ) is a German educator and interior designer. She is the initiator of the activities related to the Buddy Bears , an international art project about which she has written several books. She has lived in Berlin since 1971 .

Life

Eva Herlitz studied pedagogy , she was a primary school teacher and interior designer before she volunteered for children's aid organizations.

Together with her husband, Eva Herlitz founded Buddy Bär Berlin GmbH in 2001. Around 250 bear sculptures, a “modern variant of the Berlin bears”, were exhibited in the streets and squares of Berlin.

Eva Herlitz is also the source of ideas and initiator of the United Buddy Bears project, which was implemented a year later , and is often referred to as the art of tolerance . The exhibitions of these bears, designed by artists from all over the world, first attracted international attention when they were opened by Peter Ustinov in Berlin in 2003 and a year later by Jackie Chan in Hong Kong . This was followed by exhibitions on all five continents, often opened by state or prime ministers or mayors, including in Tokyo , Sydney , Cairo , Jerusalem , Buenos Aires , Kuala Lumpur , New Delhi , St. Petersburg , Paris and Havana .

According to Herlitz's ideas, the United Buddy Bears should give people from all over the world food for thought to better understand one another. Buddy Bear activities and help for children in need are an inseparable unit for Herlitz. Donations and auctions made it possible to pass on over 2.3 million euros (as of December 2018) to UNICEF and local children's organizations. In order to be able to help children quickly, purposefully and unbureaucratically in individual cases, the association Buddy Bear Help eV was founded in 2004 by Eva Herlitz together with several international artists . V. founded. The association supports children's projects in Malawi , Sierra Leone and Bolivia . Since 2009, the association has also been increasingly active in Berlin. Eva Herlitz is also involved in refugee aid.

Eva Herlitz has been married to Klaus Herlitz since 1972 , with whom she has three sons.
